FASIncoterms 2020
Free Alongside Ship
Seller places the goods alongside the vessel at the named port of loading; buyer handles loading.
FAS is a sea-only term. The seller delivers the goods alongside the vessel (on the quay or in a lighter) at the named port of shipment. Risk transfers at that point; the buyer arranges loading onto the vessel.
FAS is typically used for bulk commodities that load slowly and may require heavy-lift equipment. For containerised sea freight, use FCA.

FAQ
- Can FAS be used for containers?
- No, not correctly. Use FCA for containerised sea freight — risk transfers at the terminal, not alongside the ship.
