EU extends Iraq security mission mandate

On 21 April 2026, the EU Political and Security Committee adopted Decision (CFSP) 2026/925, extending the mandate of the Head of Mission of the European Union Advisory Mission in support of Security Sector Reform in Iraq (EUAM Iraq).

EUAM Iraq is a civilian mission designed to advise and assist Iraqi authorities on security sector reform, institutional capacity-building, and governance. The extension of the Head of Mission's mandate reflects the EU's ongoing commitment to supporting Iraq's institutional development and security framework improvements.

This decision falls within the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) framework and relates to EU engagement in Iraq rather than trade or customs matters. It does not introduce new tariffs, modify country-of-origin rules, change HS classification guidelines, or affect customs valuation procedures.

For shippers and freight forwarders operating in Iraq or routing cargo through Iraq, this decision maintains the existing EU advisory presence but does not alter import/export procedures, duty treatment, or sanctions designations applicable to Iraqi trade.

What this means for shippers

This decision has no direct bearing on customs clearance, landed-cost estimation, or tariff classification. Shippers should continue to follow existing Iraqi import regulations and any applicable EU sanctions or trade restrictions on Iraq.
