EU imposes anti-dumping duties on Chinese adipic acid

The European Commission has imposed anti-dumping duties on adipic acid imported from China, effective immediately. Adipic acid (HS 2917) is a key chemical intermediate used in polyurethane, nylon, and plasticiser production. Shippers exporting or importing adipic acid from China to the EU must now account for these duties in landed-cost calculations and ensure proper origin documentation.

EU anti-dumping action on Chinese adipic acid

On 5 May 2026, the European Commission imposed anti-dumping duties on imports of adipic acid originating from the People's Republic of China, effective immediately.

Who is affected

Adipic acid (HS chapter 29, organic chemicals) is a bulk chemical used primarily in the manufacture of polyurethane foams, nylon 6,6 fibres, and plasticisers. Importers, formulators, and converters sourcing from Chinese producers now face additional duty costs on all shipments. Exporters of adipic acid from China to EU customers must disclose these duties to buyers and revise pricing.

What shippers must do

All adipic acid consignments from China declared on or after the effective date are subject to the anti-dumping duty. Shippers must:

For full details on the duty rate, any company-specific exemptions, or procedural requirements, consult the EU TARIC database or the Commission's anti-dumping regulation notice.

What this means for shippers

Any importer or freight forwarder moving adipic acid from China to the EU must immediately recalculate landed costs to include the new anti-dumping duty and communicate revised pricing to customers. Failure to account for the duty on declarations risks underpayment penalties and shipment delays at customs. Verify the exporter's status and origin on all new orders now; existing inventory purchased before the effective date may qualify for different treatment depending on declaration timing.
