EU imposes definitive anti-dumping duty on Chinese adipic acid
The European Commission has imposed a definitive anti-dumping duty on adipic acid imports from China, replacing the provisional duty that was in effect. This regulatory action applies to HS Chapter 29 (organic chemicals), specifically adipic acid shipments. Importers and shippers of adipic acid from China must now comply with the new definitive duty rate, which will affect landed-cost calculations and pricing strategies for EU-bound shipments.

On 4 May 2026, the European Commission issued Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/913, establishing a definitive anti-dumping duty on imports of adipic acid originating in the People's Republic of China. This measure replaces the provisional duty previously in effect and represents the final determination in the Commission's anti-dumping investigation.
"Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/913 of 4 May 2026 imposing a definitive anti-dumping duty and definitively collecting the provisional duty imposed on imports of adipic acid originating in the People's Republic of China."
Who is affected
The definitive duty applies to all imports of adipic acid (HS Code 29160) originating in China destined for the EU market. This includes:
- Direct importers of adipic acid from Chinese suppliers
- E-commerce merchants and distributors sourcing adipic acid or adipic-acid-containing products from China
- Freight forwarders and logistics providers handling adipic acid shipments from China to the EU
- Chemical manufacturers and SMB exporters using adipic acid as a feedstock or component
Adipic acid (HS Chapter 29 — organic chemicals) is a widely used industrial chemical in the manufacture of synthetic fibres, plastics, polyurethanes, and other polymer applications. The imposition of a definitive anti-dumping duty increases the cost of entry for Chinese-origin adipic acid into EU member states.
What changed
The provisional anti-dumping duty that had been collected on imports is now made definitive and is permanently collected. Importers must adjust their landed-cost models to account for the final duty rate and ensure compliance with the new tariff treatment when filing customs declarations.
What this means for shippers
Any shipment of adipic acid from China to the EU is now subject to the definitive anti-dumping duty. Verify the exact duty rate in your customs-duty calculator and recalculate landed costs immediately. Customs declarations for future shipments must cite the new duty classification. Review existing purchase orders and supplier contracts for price adjustments; failure to update your cost models will result in duty-assessment surprises at entry. /hs-codes/search
