US opens anti-dumping probe on Turkish chromium trioxide

The U.S. Department of Commerce has issued a preliminary affirmative determination that chromium trioxide from Türkiye is being sold in the United States at less than fair value, initiating an anti-dumping investigation. The investigation covers the period July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025. Importers of this chemical product should monitor the final determination and prepare for potential duty assessments.

US Anti-Dumping Case Filed Against Turkish Chromium Trioxide

On May 22, 2026, the U.S. Department of Commerce issued a preliminary affirmative determination in an anti-dumping investigation into chromium trioxide from the Republic of Türkiye. Commerce preliminarily found that the product "is being, or is likely to be, sold in the United States at less than fair value (LTFV)." The investigation period spans July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025.

What's Affected

Chromium trioxide (HS Chapter 28 chemistry products) shipments from Türkiye are now subject to formal anti-dumping scrutiny. Importers and distributors of this intermediate chemical—used in electroplating, pigment production, and specialty coatings—should expect provisional anti-dumping duties to be assessed at entry pending the final determination. This preliminary finding signals Commerce's intention to move toward a final affirmative determination unless evidence submitted in the comment period substantially alters the analysis.

Interested parties—including importers, competing U.S. producers, and Turkish exporters—have been invited to submit factual and legal comments on this preliminary determination.

What this means for shippers

Any importer receiving chromium trioxide shipments from Türkiye must immediately review their supplier pricing and product sourcing. Provisional anti-dumping duties will likely be applied at U.S. Customs entry from this point forward, raising landed costs significantly. Confirm HS classification (likely 28049000 or similar within Chapter 28) with your freight forwarder or customs broker and recalculate landed cost estimates to account for anti-dumping liability. Monitor Commerce's final determination timeline and the Federal Register for any updates. /hs-codes/search
