US Department of Commerce suspends sodium nitrite dumping findings

The U.S. Department of Commerce announced preliminary results on 13 May 2026 in its administrative review of the existing antidumping duty order covering sodium nitrite imports from India. The period under review spans 1 February 2024 through 31 January 2025.

Key preliminary determination

Commerce preliminarily determined that Deepak Nitrite Limited (DNL), a major Indian producer and exporter, did not make sales of subject merchandise at less than normal value during the review period. This finding is significant: it undermines the factual basis for continuing antidumping duties against that supplier.

Based on this preliminary finding, Commerce announced its intent to rescind the antidumping duty order in part—specifically as it applies to DNL.

What happens next

This is a preliminary determination. Commerce is inviting interested parties—importers, US producers, foreign exporters, and trade associations—to submit comments on the preliminary results. The agency will review all comments and issue final results of the administrative review. If the final determination confirms the preliminary finding, the antidumping duties on sodium nitrite from Deepak Nitrite Limited will be formally revoked.

Sodium nitrite falls under HS Chapter 28 (inorganic chemicals). The antidumping order has been in effect on sodium nitrite from India for years; this review represents a periodic reassessment of whether dumping is still occurring.

What this means for shippers

Importers sourcing sodium nitrite from Deepak Nitrite Limited should prepare for potential duty relief: once Commerce issues its final results and formally rescinds the order in part, DNL-origin goods will no longer be subject to antidumping duties. File comments now if you have data on pricing or import volumes during the review period. Monitor the Federal Register for the final determination and the effective date of rescission. Failure to adjust your landed-cost model once the order is rescinded will overstate your true import costs and erode margins on DNL purchases.
